Lessons Learned #3 : Design before Coding

Really spend time thinking about what you want your game to contain. Design a few levels, design a few sub systems, design as much as you can. Changing a design is infinitely easier than changing code.

Sudden intense anxiety, that’s what I felt… So, here I am, finally home from one of “those days” at work, just minding my own business in the safe quiet of my apartment. A text chimes on my phone, which to be honest I ignored. Then a couple minutes later another, followed by a phone call… fine, I guess I should answer. Hey guys! I’m Drew, game designer/developer/project lead/composer for Beyond The Tales, and we wanted to share some of the main lessons learned from the FIRST attempt of at this game. I hope this information helps future game devs with some big decisions! Some history to start with first.
